74th Drawing and Calligraphy Contest to Celebrate Operation Chromite


In celebration of the 74th anniversary of the Operation Chromite, Incheon Metropolitan City will host a Drawing and Calligraphy Contest on September 8th at Songdo Central Park. 

The event, organized by the Incheon Metropolitan City Art Association, aims to reflect on the historical significance of the operation and promote themes of patriotism, security, peace, and reunification. 

The contest is open to kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students, and will take place from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Participation is free.





Incheon Transforming into a Smart City Underpinned by UAM


On September 4th, Incheon Metropolitan City was honored at the ‘2024 World Smart City Expo Awards’, winning the ‘Domestic City’ category and jointly receiving the ‘Best Partnership’ award with Starburst Korea. 

The city is pushing forward with its urban air mobility initiatives, aiming to create a one-day living zone for island areas and a 30-minute transportation system for the metropolitan area. 

Incheon has been proactive in enacting related ordinances and making substantial investments. Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok 유정복 stated that the city is committed to building a smart city that ㅑㅜinnovates its spatial structure and mobility zones, aspiring to be one of the world’s top 10 top-notch cities.




Cooperation in Full Swing for Designation of Baengnyeong and Daecheong Islands as UNESCO Geoparks


Incheon Metropolitan City has been selected as a domestic candidate for the UNESCO Global Geopark designation for Baengnyeong and Daecheong Islands. Following the submission of a letter of intent in June, the city plans to submit a formal application in November. 

The application will highlight the international significance of the geopark, infrastructure development, and community cooperation strategies. 

An Incheon city official emphasized the city’s commitment to enhancing its brand, becoming a world-renowned tourist destination, and revitalizing the local economy in cooperation with the community. 





Incheon City to Open Animal Adoption Support Facility by 2026


Incheon City has announced plans to establish a pet welfare and culture center by June 2026. The center, located in Cheonghak-dong, Yeonsu-gu, will be remodeled from the old building of the Munhak Tunnel. 

With an investment of around 2.8 billion won, the center will feature adoption rooms, medical examination rooms, education rooms, and community rooms. 

It aims to provide shelter for abandoned animals at risk and facilitate adoptions after health check-ups, vaccinations, neutering, and animal registration. Furthermore, educational programs to prevent animal abuse and improve pet awareness will be offered.
