Incheon City held a farewell party on the 19th at the Black-faced Spoonbill Eco-Learning Center in Namdong Reservoir to wish "peace and safety" for the departing black-faced spoonbills.

The black-faced spoonbill is an endangered species (Grade I) and a natural monument with only about 6,000 left worldwide. They spend winters in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, and return every March to the 'Namdong Reservoir Spoonbill Island', the only breeding site within an urban area. They breed from March to August and leave Incheon in November.

An Incheon City official stated, "Next year, we will continue to pursue various measures to raise public awareness about migratory waterbirds, including the black-faced spoonbill."
