Incheon Holds ‘Next Incheon’ Forum, Shares Vision for Aging Planned Cities
The City of Incheon announced it successfully held the ‘Next Incheon’ forum yesterday (23rd) at the city hall’s main conference room.
The forum was organized in response to the new Special Act on the Maintenance and Support of Aging Planned Cities, which came into effect on April 27, 2024. It aimed to share the city’s policy direction and implementation strategy for the upcoming master plan on aging planned cities, and to gather a wide range of ideas from citizens and experts.
Rather than being a one-time event, the forum served as an important platform to build practical momentum for planning and policy development going forward.
Incheon Recruits ‘Eco Creators’ for Green Media Content
Incheon City announced it will run the ‘Eco Creators’ program starting in July, selecting citizens interested in resource recycling centers to create environmental content across different media.
The program began last year and will recruit participants until July 4. Up to 10 people will be selected.
Eligible applicants include citizens aged 20 to 39 who either live in Incheon, attend a local school, or work in the city, and who are interested in the field of resource circulation. Final selections will be made through a document screening and announced individually in July.
Incheon Port to Block Illegal Drones with New Counter-System
The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries announced it will install an anti-drone system at Incheon Port to prevent illegal drone access.
In partnership with Incheon Port Authority, the office will invest 5.8 billion to install cutting-edge equipment, including drone-detecting radar, radio jammers, and high-performance electro-optical and infrared cameras.
After an eight-month installation period, the system is expected to go fully operational at Incheon Port starting in February next year.
Incheon’s Michuhol-gu Holds Phone Scam and Dementia Prevention Training for Seniors
The Community Security Council of Incheon’s Michuhol-gu recently held a training session at the district hall for about 150 senior residents, focused on preventing phone scams and strengthening cognitive health to reduce the risk of dementia.
The session was organized in response to the rising number of scams targeting the elderly, including fake calls and fraudulent text payments.
A district official said they will continue to offer various programs to improve the quality of life for senior citizens.
Namdong-gu to Open ‘Water Light Playground’ on July 5
Namdong-gu in Incheon announced it will officially open the new ‘Namdong Water Light Playground’ in Nonhyeonpodae Neighborhood Park on July 5, after trial operations on July 3 and 4.
The large outdoor water park began construction in February with a total budget of 4.5 billion. It features a 185-meter lazy river, swimming pools, and a water play area for young children—the first of its kind among Incheon’s public facilities.
The park will be open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to all age groups. Admission is 5,000 won, and the number of visitors will be limited to 800 at a time for safety and comfort. It will operate through August 31.
Incheon’s Jung-gu to Lower Public Bus Fares from July
Jung-gu in Incheon announced it will lower fares for public buses running in the Yeongjongdo area starting next month, with reductions of up to 20%.
After the fare cut, adult fares will drop from 1,500 won to 1,200 won, youth fares from 1,050 won to 850 won, and children’s fares from 600 won to 500 won (card payment).
Jung-gu changed the fare system from a main-route model to a local-route model to reduce transportation costs for residents of Yeongjongdo.
Dong-gu to Launch Public Contest for Redevelopment Ideas for Songnim Plaza Site
Incheon’s Dong-gu is launching a public idea contest to find ways to use the site of Songnim Plaza, a key redevelopment issue in the area.
The plaza, located in Songnim-dong, covers a land area of 13,418 square meters and is currently being considered for partial sale by its owners.
Dong-gu was selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last year for urban regeneration in the Hwasu Pier area. The project will receive 120 billion in funding, including national support, by 2029 to develop the area into a hub for root industries.
Incheon Office of Education Holds Anti-Bullying Walk Campaign
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is holding a school violence prevention walking campaign titled “Let’s Walk the Flower Path Together” from June 23 to July 11, with 7,104 students, parents, teachers, and citizens participating.
The campaign encourages people to walk and talk with friends, family, and neighbors to improve physical and mental health. At the same time, it promotes education and actions to prevent school bullying, helping students grow into defenders rather than bystanders.
The Office of Education plans to follow up with a fall version of the campaign, called “Let’s Walk the Autumn Path Together,” to keep spreading the anti-bullying message.
