Incheon launches the second Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee


Incheon Metropolitan City held an appointment ceremony for the second Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Committee and presented letters of appointment to its members.

The committee is composed of 30 members, including experts in carbon neutrality, officials from the city and city council, civic groups, and academia.

It serves as the city’s highest policy deliberation and decision-making body for the transition to a carbon-neutral society and the promotion of green growth.






Incheon raises incentives for elderly drivers who voluntarily return their licenses to 300,000 won starting next year


Incheon Metropolitan City announced plans to increase the incentive for elderly drivers who voluntarily surrender their driver’s licenses from the current 100,000 won to up to 300,000 won starting next year.

According to the city, the increase will be reflected in the 2025 main budget in line with the enforcement of the ordinance on preventing traffic accidents involving elderly drivers. A total of 26.4 billion won will be allocated for the program.

The plan aims to support 8,800 participants, which is 800 more than the previous year. However, the number of beneficiaries may be adjusted if the budget allocation is reduced.





Incheon City Council hosts policy forum with public institutions


The Incheon City Council will hold the “2025 Policy Forum” on August 25 and 26, providing a platform to discover and propose fresh policies that enhance citizens’ happiness and advance the local community.

The initiative began in 2019 under the name “Policy Festival,” jointly organized with the Incheon Institute, with the motto “a council that researches.” Since 2023, it has been held annually under the current name, “Policy Forum.”

This year’s forum will be co-hosted with the Incheon Policy Research Network, a joint research body made up of 15 public institutions that contribute directly to the city’s policy planning and implementation.






Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation reopens modern architectural heritage ‘Ieum 1977’


The Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation (iH) announced the reopening of “Ieum 1977” in Songhak-dong, Jung-gu, Incheon, which had been temporarily closed for maintenance last year.

Ieum 1977 was the first project of iH’s Modern Architectural Heritage Regeneration Program. The corporation purchased the building from its private owner, renovated it, and opened it to the public in 2022.

Designed by the renowned Korean architect Kim Swoo-geun (1931–1986) and completed in 1977, the house is considered a significant piece of modern Korean architecture.






Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education pushes forward with new Yeongjong Haneul 5 Middle School project


The Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education has requested a central investment review for the planned establishment of a new school, tentatively named Yeongjong Haneul 5 Middle School, on the Yeongjong Haneul City Park Golf Course site.

The new school project is intended to resolve overcrowding and long commuting distances caused by a sharp increase in student numbers due to large-scale housing developments.

In cooperation with the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, the office reviewed educational suitability, accessibility, and urban planning conditions, ultimately selecting the Park Golf Course site for the new school.






Incheon Seo-gu hosts the 2025 Jeongseojin Ara Waterway Kayak Festival


Incheon’s Seo-gu, together with the K-water Ara Waterway Branch, will host the “2025 Jeongseojin Ara Waterway Kayak Festival” on Saturday, September 6, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ara Incheon Passenger Terminal.

The festival will feature water leisure programs such as kayaking and canoeing, along with side events including a children’s drawing contest, busking performances, and youth club stages, offering a variety of activities for families.

Safety measures will be strengthened with on-site staff and equipment checks. 

On-site registration for water programs will also be available from noon on the day of the event.
