The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority held a “Policy Forum on Institutional Reforms to Attract the Content Industry to the Incheon Free Economic Zone” yesterday at 10 a.m. in Seminar Room 2 of the National Assembly Members’ Office Building.The forum was convened to explore the introduction of incentive programs on par with those offered by competing countries, in order to attract global media production companies to K-CON LAND within the Incheon Free Economic Zone. It also aims to promote amendments to the Special Act on Free Economic Zones to support these measures.Based on the outcomes of the forum, the authority plans to work with the lawmakers who co-hosted the event to move forward with submitting the related legislative proposal.
[Incheon City, Holds water release ceremony ahead of completion of Gulpo Stream ecological restoration]
The Incheon city held a water release ceremony yesterday, marking the first supply of maintenance water ahead of the completion of its first river restoration initiative, the Gulpo Stream Natural Ecological Restoration Project.The project aims to revive Gulpo Stream—once covered with gray concrete during urbanization in the 1990s and stripped of its natural functions—into a nature-friendly waterfront, recreational, and ecological space.The restored stream will receive 40,000 tons of water per day, sourced from treated effluent at the Gulpo Wastewater Treatment Plant and disinfected at a reuse facility before being supplied.
[Incheon Breaks Ground on New Integrated Veterans Center]
Incheon city held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Integrated Veterans Center yesterday in Ganseok-dong, Namdong-gu.
Once completed, the Incheon Integrated Veterans Center will bring together the offices of local veterans’ organizations under one roof. The four-story facility, with a total floor area of 4,600 square meters, is being built at a cost of 29.6 billion won and is scheduled for completion in January 2027.
The center will house administrative offices for veterans’ groups, a multipurpose hall, conference rooms, and a health-promotion center.
[Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation, Holds Housing Policy Seminar on Building an Incheon-Style Childcare and Senior Housing Ecosystem]
The Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation, or iH, together with the Incheon City, the Incheon Institute, and the Korea Housing Association, is jointly hosting a policy seminar on establishing an “Incheon-style housing ecosystem” for young families and senior citizens.
The seminar is taking place today at Songdo Convensia and focuses on closing gaps in childcare and senior care services throughout the city.
Participants will also examine Incheon’s demographic trends—particularly its status as the only major metropolitan area in Korea experiencing a net population increase—and explore challenges related to insufficient support for both older adults and children.
[Incheon Namdong-gu, Wins Excellence Award at Community Autonomy Competition]
Incheon Namdong-gu has received the Excellence Award at the Community Autonomy Best Practices Competition, held during the 2025 Incheon Community Autonomy Capacity-Building Workshop.
Ten teams, each selected from the city’s various districts and counties, took part in the competition and presented their best-practice cases. On-site evaluations were conducted by a panel of community governance experts, who assessed the entries based on originality, resident participation, and local relevance.
Representing Incheon Namdong-gu, the Guwol 3-dong Community Council earned high marks for its initiative titled “Creating a Happier Guwol 3-dong Together with Residents.” The project showcased a participatory model of local governance in which residents directly identify community issues and lead neighborhood projects.
[Incheon Gyeyang-gu, Earns Renewal of Family-Friendly Institution Certification]
Incheon Gyeyang-gu has been re-certified as a Family-Friendly Institution by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
The Family-Friendly Certification Program is a national system in which the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family evaluates public institutions and private companies on how effectively they support employees’ work–life balance, granting certification to organization that meets its standards.
Incheon Gyeyang-gu first obtained the certification in 2014 and has spent the past decade cultivating and strengthening a family-friendly organizational culture. Officials say the renewed certification reflects continued improvements and the district’s long-term commitment to supporting balanced and flexible work environments.
