Incheon strengthens environmental management with expert support for pollutant-emitting businesses
Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it has provided free environmental management support to businesses that discharge pollutants in industrial complexes, working alongside private sector experts.
The city is home to 13,769 companies across three national industrial complexes, 11 general industrial complexes, and one high-tech industrial complex. Among these, 2,158 businesses discharge air or water pollutants.
This year’s second-half support focused on companies with prior administrative actions or recent complaints, covering a total of eight businesses—five for air pollution management and three for water quality management.
Incheon shares achievements of community urban farms at annual gathering
Incheon Metropolitan City will hold the 2025 Community Urban Farm Achievement Sharing Event on December 16 at the Songdo 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center. The event will review a year of activities in the city’s community urban farm program, known as “Eeum Garden” which is run with active citizen participation.
Eeum Garden represents a model of urban agriculture in Incheon where citizens grow crops together and engage in shared activities. It has become a public space that not only provides fresh produce but also fosters neighborly connections and community relationships.
This year, 334 citizens and 26 organizations took part in Eum Urban Farm, engaging in crop cultivation, joint projects, educational programs, experiential activities, and small group gatherings.
Incheon improves water treatment at Gongchon plant to reduce disinfectant odor and enhance safety
The Gongchon Water Treatment Plant, operated by Incheon’s Waterworks Headquarters, has stopped using chlorine (Cl₂) as a disinfectant and adopted a new method based on sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) to produce and supply tap water.
Since December of last year, the plant has planned and tested the new system, conducting repeated trials on injection processes, safety, and disinfection efficiency to determine the optimal approach, which has now been implemented.
Following the introduction of sodium hypochlorite-based disinfection at the Bupyeong Water Treatment Plant last year, Incheon plans to expand this method to the Susan and Namdong treatment plants in line with its advanced water treatment strategy.
Incheon Art Platform hosts festive winter art market
The Incheon Cultural Foundation will host the IAP Winter Market at Incheon Art Platform over two days, from Saturday, December 13 to Sunday, December 14, bringing a full Christmas atmosphere to the venue.
The winter market-style art program features performances, hands-on activities, exhibitions, and an art marketplace.
All performances and workshops at the IAP Winter Market are free and open to the public without prior registration, except for the “Create Your Own Tree” program, which requires advance sign-up.
Namdong-gu hosts 2025 Happy Children Photo Exhibition celebrating joyful family moments
Namdong-gu in Incheon hosted the 2025 Happy Children Photo Exhibition, an event designed for parents and children to enjoy together.
Organized by the Namdong-gu Childcare Support Center, the exhibition showcased photographs capturing children’s happiest moments and included family experience programs and a musical performance.
From December 1 to 6, the lobby of the district office displayed photos reflecting local children’s affection and joy, while hands-on activities — such as picture-frame making — offered families an opportunity to create keepsakes together.
Bupyeong-gu completes environmental improvement project along former military railway
Bupyeong-gu held a completion ceremony at 371 Bugae-dong to mark the end of its Military Railway Environmental Improvement Project.
The project transformed a long-neglected, 777-meter stretch of military railway in Bugae 1-dong. With an investment of 2.5 billion won, the district installed a walking path, rest areas, newly planted trees, photo zones and scenic lighting.
A site that had been abandoned for years has now been reborn as a welcoming community space — a place where residents of all ages can walk, rest and enjoy their neighborhood.
