Incheon Metropolitan City selects nine universities, including Inha University, for the second round of the RISE (Regional Innovation System for Higher Education) program
Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it has selected nine universities for the second round of this year’s Incheon-style RISE (Regional Innovation System for Higher Education) program.
The Incheon RISE program consists of four core projects—training future talent to lead Incheon’s strategic industries, strengthening industry–academia cooperation through university specialization, innovating lifelong education linked to local jobs, and leading solutions to regional challenges—along with 14 sub-tasks.
Through the second call, the city selected nine universities to implement six sub-tasks and decided to provide a total of 3.7 billion won in project funding.
Incheon New Port secures a 16-meter-deep shipping channel after completion of extension and dredging works
The Incheon Regional Office of Oceans and Fisheries announced that it has completed the extension and deepening dredging works of the shipping channel at Incheon New Port, in preparation for the opening of the Phase 1-2 container terminal in 2028.
With a total project cost of 37 billion won, the office removed 7.88 million cubic meters of sediment from the channel near the terminal and newly secured a shipping lane with a depth of 16 meters.
This will allow large container vessels of up to 8,000 TEU—one TEU equals a 20-foot container—to safely navigate the port.

Incheon Metropolitan City presented awards to 176 recipients, including exemplary citizens and outstanding heads of local community units.
The ceremony was held to recognize citizens who have contributed to community development and practiced care for their neighbors.
Award recipients have carried out acts of goodwill in various fields, including life-saving rescues, talent donation, and support for vulnerable groups.
The city said it will continue its awards and support to encourage a culture of service and volunteering.
Incheon sets first-ever municipal guidelines for water pipe cleaning management
The Waterworks Authority of Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it has established the nation’s first municipal guidelines for cleaning water supply pipes, in order to provide citizens with clean and safe tap water.
The guidelines present standardized procedures for systematically removing sediment and foreign substances accumulated inside water pipes, covering the entire process from selecting cleaning methods to consultation, construction, and completion.
The authority expects the new system to allow water management standards to be applied proactively from the development planning stage, while enhancing both project stability and public trust in tap water quality.
Seunggi Stream in Yeonsu-gu maintains Grade 1 water quality for five consecutive months
Yeonsu-gu in Incheon Metropolitan City announced that water quality in Seunggi Stream, a major local waterway, has significantly improved to Grade 1.
According to monthly biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) measurements conducted by the Incheon Institute of Health and Environment, Seunggi Stream recorded a Grade 1 level of 1.9 mg/L in July and has maintained the same rating for five consecutive months through last month.
The district explained that the improvement reflects the effects of water quality and odor control projects carried out after assuming full management authority over the 6.24-kilometer stream in February 2023.
Incheon Main Customs Donates 41 Tons of Seized Agricultural Products for Wildlife Feed
Incheon Main Customs announced that it has donated 41 tons of seized agricultural products, valued at 700 million won, to seven environmental organizations and to Goyang City.
The donated items were part of 86 tons of agricultural products discovered inside containers that had been falsely declared as cat litter during import inspections in January.
Customs officials said the donation is expected to help endangered wildlife, including cranes that overwinter in the Han River estuary and the Incheon area.
