Debate Continues Over Naming Of Cheongna Haneul Bridge Connecting Road
Following earlier controversy over the naming of the Cheongna Haneul Bridge, debate has now emerged over naming a connecting road that includes the bridge. According to Incheon City, Jung-gu and Seo-gu have proposed different preliminary names for the Yeongjong–Cheongna Connecting Road: “Incheon International City Boulevard” and “Cheongna Haneul Boulevard” respectively. The road runs for 8.1 kilometers from the end of Haneul-daero in Jung-gu to the start of Bongoh-daero in Seo-gu, and includes the Cheongna Haneul Bridge along the route.
The city plans to conduct a public preference survey through March 16th on three candidate names, including “International Future Boulevard,” which was proposed by the city.
Coast Guard To Recruit 194 Coastal Safety Guards With Expanded Pay
The Korea Coast Guard will recruit 194 “coastal safety guards” who will take part in marine accident prevention activities. Applicants must be local residents who are familiar with the characteristics of coastal areas. Applications can be submitted to the marine safety divisions of local Coast Guard stations or coastal substations from March 26 to April 1. Afterwards, candidates will be selected through a screening process. Those selected will serve from May through October and will assist with rapid reporting and rescue support during coastal accidents, inspect safety facilities such as warning signs and life-saving equipment boxes, and promote safety guidelines and tide-related information.
Yeonsu-gu Urges Cleanup Of Contaminated Soil At Songdo Amusement Park Site
Incheon’s Yeonsu-gu is preparing stronger measures against Booyoung Housing, which has failed to comply with an order to remediate contaminated soil at the Songdo Theme Park site.
According to district officials, a meeting of the Environmental Policy Advisory Group was recently held at the district office with participation from related institutions including Incheon Metropolitan City. The meeting focused on urging soil cleanup at the theme park site. A detailed soil investigation conducted in 2018 found that six harmful substances, including total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), benzene, lead, and zinc, exceeded safety standards by significant margins at the site.
Incheon Selected For Government Project To Revitalize Wellness Tourism Cluster
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Tourism Organization have been selected for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s project to revitalize the wellness tourism sector. With the selection, Incheon will strengthen its foundation as a global hub for wellness and medical tourism. The city will receive approximately 1.3 billion won in government funding over the next three years to develop a long-stay wellness tourism model. Incheon plans to advance its existing tourism model by expanding tourism from an industrial perspective and actively building a healing and medical tourism ecosystem designed to encourage longer stays by both domestic and international visitors.
Household Waste Shipments Sudokwon Landfill Drop Sharply After Ban
The amount of household waste sent to the Sudokwon landfill has dropped sharply following the ban on direct landfilling of household waste in the greater Seoul area taking effect this year.
According to the Sudokwon Landfill Management Corporation, a total of 4,706 tons of household waste were brought to the Sudokwon landfill in Seo-gu, Incheon, between January and February this year. Concerns had been raised that local governments in the Seoul Metropolitan region could face serious waste disposal difficulties after the direct landfill ban took effect. However, waste is currently being processed without major disruption.
Incheon Moves Forward With Jungbong Tunnel Project
Incheon Metropolitan City has selected a preferred bidder for the privately funded Jungbong Tunnel project. The tunnel will connect Gyeongseo Intersection and Geomdan 2nd Intersection in Seo-gu. The 4.5-kilometer Jungbong Tunnel will be built as a four-lane underground road under a public-private partnership (BTO-a) model. The preferred bidder, tentatively named Jungbong Tunnel Co. led by DL Construction, proposed a total project cost of 349.3 billion won.
The city plans to complete negotiations by the end of this year and begin construction in 2028.
Photo Exhibition Highlights Old Downtown Incheon’s Architectural Heritage
A photo exhibition featuring Incheon’s modern architectural heritage has opened in Jung-gu’s Open Port area. According to Incheon Housing & City Development Corporation (iH), the exhibition titled “Port City Incheon: Telling the Story of Hidden Treasures,” jointly organized by Incheon City, iH, and Inha University, will run through the 21st at three modern architectural heritage sites, “Ieum 1977,” “Baeknyeon Ieum,” and “Ieum 1978.” The exhibition features about 90 works, including texts and photographs from the Incheon Studies Association’s “Incheon Urban Architecture 100+,” the city’s landscape documentation projects, and photos of Incheon’s islands by the Yellow Sea Islands Network.
